# Sofwave in Seoul

> Sofwave is a non-invasive ultrasound skin-tightening device that heats the mid-dermis with seven parallel, non-focused beams. The guides cover how it works, its US FDA clearances, who it suits, recovery, the published studies and what a session costs in Seoul.

Sofwave Medical Ltd. of Israel makes the device and calls its technology SUPERB (Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam). Seven transducers fire together at 10–12 MHz with a target treatment depth of about 1.5 mm in the dermis, creating separate cylindrical thermal zones that span roughly 0.5–2 mm and reach about 60–70 °C, while contact cooling and a real-time skin-temperature monitor protect the surface. It treats the dermis and does not remove fat. A session takes about 30–60 minutes; published protocols use about 3.0–4.2 J per pulse, two to three passes per area and roughly 150–200 pulses to cover both cheeks.

US FDA 510(k) clearances by indication:

- 9 September 2019, K191421: facial lines and wrinkles, when the device was named the Sofacia System
- 15 November 2021, K211483: lifting the eyebrow and lax submental and neck tissue, ages 22 and older
- 16 December 2022, K223237: short-term improvement in the appearance of cellulite
- 28 August 2023, K231537: acne scars
- 22 December 2023, K233104: upper-arm skin laxity, studied with two sessions 1–3 weeks apart and assessed three months after the final session

In the 15-participant Gold and Biron study, mild redness and swelling resolved on their own, one case of mild facial peeling settled within three days and no serious adverse events were observed. Change is judged over months: some clinical studies followed outcomes for six months, an acne-scar case series for up to eight months and a biopsy study for up to ten months.

At the [Federal Reserve’s 28 August 2026 rate](https://www.federalreserve.gov/releases/h10/20260831/) of KRW 1,379.41 per US dollar, that is about USD 1,450–1,595.
